MANAGING A FLEA OUTBREAK

Occasionally, we see pet owners coming in complaining of fleas despite use of a product. There are many possible reasons why this happens - see Flea control and Product failure

But for those owners who want the quickest results, BVH recommends the following combined approach:

1) Capstar

Capstar is a tablet which when swallowed, releases a chemical that kills any adult flea that bites the animal for the next 24 hours.

Dogs: one tablet every 2nd day for 4 weeks

Cats: one tablet twice a week for 4 weeks

2) A Flea Killing Product

There are many products on the market, each with slightly different modes of action and added benefits. If you are experiencing flea problems and have been using a particular product on all your pets all year round, then consider changing to a different brand.
