EAR MITES
Ear mites can cause of a lot of discomfort in dogs and cats.
They are just visible with low power magnification.
The irritation they cause makes the ear produce a black waxy discharge which can dry out. They are relatively common in your pups and kittens and can be an indication of low hygienic practise by the breeders as the mites are usually transferred from the mother to the litter.

Treatment
The two most effective treatments for ear mites include:
- Surolan
- ear drops which are a medicated ear drop in an oily suspension
- the medication treats the infection and inflammation associated with ear mites and the oily suspension helps kill the mites
- Advocate
- a topical preparation applied monthly between the shoulder blades.
- this product gets absorbed systemically and treats a number of internal and external parasites excluding ticks. It’s a great product for indoor cats where ticks are not a possible parasite risk
Usually, we use a combination of these two drugs together for maximum effect.
